When I got the first e-mail from my sister about going to the Jane Austin Festival in Louisville, Kentucky I ignored it, hoping that like a zit, it would go away if I left it alone. But when my sister Paula took over the planning, I knew I was doomed.
“Claudia and I have been getting more and more excited about this event for July 2012. We not only want us to all go, but we want us to all go in costume. It will be so much more fun that way.”
Okay, so it wasn’t going away, after all. But there was no way I was going to put on some multi-layered dress and a bonnet in mid-July. I planned on getting by with my Regency shorts and tee shirt. But even in this I was thwarted.
They want me to attend in a dress, one that have to make, and that isn’t the worst part.
“Don't panic on this one, Sheila. Claudia and I thought you would actually like to make your own costume if the corset were made for you. The Sense and Sensibility pattern in particular is quite easy. But if I mis-read and you absolutely hate the idea, I will more-than-help you.”
I’m going to have to wear a corset.
More on this later.
